PPV Fusion: Royal Rumble 2013

by Firefly on 20th February 2013

The 2013 WWE Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View starts with a video hyping the matches to take place later on in the night, followed by a video recapping the events involving Alberto Del Rio and The Big Show three weeks ago on SmackDown and two days ago on SmackDown.

WWE Hall Of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart is shown backstage wishing Alberto Del Rio luck in his upcoming match and putting his sunglasses on Ricardo Rodriguez, and Alberto Del Rio then takes on The Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Last Man Standing match.

The match sees Del Rio get the victory and retain his title, when Ricardo Rodriguez takes advantage of Del Rio putting Show in the cross-armbreaker, and uses duct-tape to tie Show’s feet to the bottom rope, stopping him from being able to get up and answer the ten count.

After Matt Striker interviews Dolph Ziggler, AJ Lee, and Big E Langston backstage, in which Ziggler says that he is picking to be the number one entrant in the Royal Rumble match and will also cash in his Money In The Bank contract to unify the titles at WrestleMania, and a video recapping the Pre-Show match between Antonio Cesaro and The Miz, “Team Rhodes Scholars” Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow are pitted against “Team Hell No” Kane and Daniel Bryan for the WWE Tag Team Championship.

The match sees Bryan get the victory and retain the titles for his team, when he applies the No Lock to Sandow, forcing him to tap out.

After a video hyping the stats of the Royal Rumble match, an interaction backstage involving Vickie Guerrero, Kane, and Daniel Bryan, and a video recapping the Royal Rumble Fanfest, it’s time for this year’s Royal Rumble match.

The first entrant is of course Dolph Ziggler, and he grabs a microphone to say how the end of the match will be like the start of it, with him standing alone in the ring, and he calls for the second entrant to be sent out, as he doesn’t even care who it could be.

The second entrant is revealed to be a surprise in the return of Chris Jericho, and notable moments that happen throughout the Royal Rumble match include Goldust as one of the entrants, Kofi Kingston avoiding elimination by jumping on Tensai’s back and then using JBL’s chair to hop back towards the ring, and The Godfather being one of the entrants, only to be eliminated immediately by a dropkick from from Dolph Ziggler.

The match sees John Cena get the victory to head to WrestleMania, when he eliminates Ryback.

After a video recapping the events involving CM Punk and The Rock that led to the upcoming match, and Josh Mathews interviewing The Rock about his upcoming match, CM Punk (accompanied by Paul Heyman) goes against The Rock for the WWE Championship in a match which sees Punk get the victory and retain his title, when he pins a beaten up Rock after he is apparently attacked by The Shield and put through the announcers’ table while the lights are out.

CM Punk celebrates his victory, but it is cut short by Vince McMahon’s music hitting and him making his way out to the stage, where he points out that he said that if The Shield interfered in the match, then he would strip Punk of the title.

He acknowledges that we didn’t specifically see The Shield due to the lights being out, but that it was clear that it was them, but as he prepares to formally strip Punk of the WWE Championship, The Rock interrupts and says that McMahon will not take the title from Punk and end the night like that, but instead he will.

The Rock demands that the match be restarted, to which McMahon agrees and calls for the referee to restart it. The Rock gets the victory to become the new WWE Champion, when he hits Punk with The People’s Elbow for the 3-count.

The Rock celebrates in the ring, as the Royal Rumble goes off the air.
