Raw Fusion: Focus & Fandangler
The 18th March 2013 episode of Monday Night Raw starts with a video recapping Triple H’s challenge to Brock Lesnar and his response, and the events involving The Undertaker, CM Punk, and Kane last week, John Cena’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring to kick off the show.
John Cena talks about how he has the same message for The Rock’s fans that he gave a few weeks ago – that The Rock’s time is up, and his time is now. He says that he’s not going to make the mistake he did last year and predict victory, but he is focused for WrestleMania.
He is interrupted from talking further by the “Prime Time Players” music hitting and Darren Young and Titus O’Neil making their way out, though O’Neil claims to be his own uncle (named “Rufus ‘Pancake’ Patterson”) rather than himself.
They say that Cena isn’t the only one who is focused on WrestleMania, as the Prime Time Players are also ready. After referencing Young’s similarity to Cena in looks, they challenge Cena to a match and he accepts to show what it means to be ready for WrestleMania.
The match sees Cena get the victory, when he hits Young with an Attitude Adjustment for the 3-count.
After a video recapping the events involving The Shield, Ryback, and Mark Henry on SmackDown, Ryback takes on David Otunga in a match which sees Ryback get the victory, when he hits Otunga with a World’s Strongest Slam for the 3-count.
Afterwards, Ryback talks about how he will tear The Shield apart along with Randy Orton and Sheamus, but that as far as Mark Henry is concerned, they will cross again on the Road to WrestleMania.
Mark Henry’s music hits and he makes his way out onto the stage, but before he can start to make his way to the ring, Vickie Guerrero and Teddy Long make their way out and warn him not to take another step towards the ring – at least not yet.
Vickie tells Ryback that she is taking him out of the Six-Man Tag Team match at WrestleMania, and will instead be putting him in a one-on-one match there against Mark Henry instead. Ryback takes the opportunity to send a message to Henry, by picking Otunga up and hitting him with another Shell-Shock.
After a video recapping The Great Khali’s attempts to pronounce Fandango’s name on SmackDown, Fandango (accompanied by his dance partner) is set to face The Great Khali (accompanied by Natalya), but instead he once again refuses to do so after Natalya pronounces his name as “Fan-dan-Go get him Khali!”.
Next, R-Truth is pitted against Damien Sandow in a match which sees Truth get the victory as a result of a count-out, when Sandow exits the ring and leaves without making any attempts to re-enter it.
After an interaction backstage involving The Bella Twins, Kaitlyn, and Cody Rhodes, and a video recapping the match between CM Punk and Kane last week along with the aftermath involving The Undertaker and Punk’s attack with the urn, The Undertaker’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring.
The Undertaker says that CM Punk sealed his own fate when he decided to make it personal last week, so there is no saving himself at WrestleMania, as he is going to hurt him – bad. He says that the only way for Punk to save his own soul is to give him the urn back.
CM Punk appears on the titantron with the urn and attempting to imitate Paul Bearer’s high voice, where he says that Bearer wants The Undertaker to know that his loss at WrestleMania will not only be a personal one, but a professional one too – and a count-out or disqualification also still counts as a loss.
He says that The Undertaker is the best at WrestleMania, but that he himself is the best 365 days a year, and although The Undertaker has powers and answers to a higher power, Punk is a higher power and is the one man in the world who can shoulder the burden of snapping The Undertaker’s Streak.
Punk says that he will end The Undertaker’s Undefeated Streak at WrestleMania and will be the one in 20-1, as he then continues to throw and roll the urn around as he has been doing the whole time he has been talking, only to swear as he drops it and comment that the lid almost came off – yet he stills claims that there is no disrespect intended.
Now, “Team Hell No” Kane and Daniel Bryan go against Primo and Epico (accompanied by Rosa Mendes) in a match which sees Kane get the victory for his team, when Epico with a chokeslam for the 3-count, despite the attempt at distraction by AJ Lee’s music hitting and her skipping around the ring.
After Josh Mathews interviews Chris Jericho about his upcoming match, which sees an interruption by Fandango and Jericho insult him in return by getting his name completely wrong multiple times, Cody Rhodes takes on Alberto Del Rio in a match which sees Del Rio get the victory, when he applies the cross-armbreaker to Rhodes and forces him to tap out.
Afterwards, Jack Swagger interrupts Del Rio’s celebration by attacking him from behind, only for Del Rio to gain the upper-hand and slam him into the barrier – until Swagger takes advantage of the distraction provided by Zeb Colter, which allows Swagger to take Del Rio out by slamming him into the steps and then throw him over the announcers’ table. Swagger follows this up even further, by applying the Patriot Lock to Ricardo Rodriguez.
After a video announcing Booker T as the next inductee to the 2013 WWE Hall Of Fame Class, Randy Orton and Sheamus are pitted against “3MB” Drew McIntyre and Heath Slater (accompanied by third member, Jinder Mahal) in a Tag Team match which sees Orton get the victory for his team, when he hits Slater with an RKO for the 3-count.
Afterwards, The Shield’s music hits and they start to make their way to the ring through the crowd to surround the ring, but before they can enter it, The Big Show’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring to even up the odds.
The appearance of The Big Show appears to give The Shield second thoughts, as instead of attempting to attack, they instead start to leave again through the crowd. Looking towards Sheamus and Orton, Show points towards the WrestleMania sign and leaves, indicating that he wants to be a part of their team against The Shield in the Six-Man Tag Team match at WrestleMania 29.
After a video hyping the release of the “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” movie, and a video recapping the match between Dolph Ziggler and Kane on SmackDown and its aftermath, Kofi Kingston goes against Dolph Ziggler (accompanied by AJ Lee and Big E Langston) in a match which sees Ziggler get the victory, when he hits Kingston with a Zig-Zag for the 3-count.
Afterwards, Kane’s music and stage pyro goes off to interrupt the in-ring celebration, as Kane and Daniel Bryan make their way out onto the stage, where they congratulate Ziggler on his victory and ability to get Kane and Bryan on the same page.
They say that we have all seen what Big E Langston can do outside of the ring, but that maybe we should see what he’s like inside it too, as they challenge Ziggler and Langston to a Tag Team match, which AJ Lee accepts on their behalf as long as it is for the WWE Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania.
Kane and Daniel Bryan emphatically agree.
After a video hyping the match between The Rock and John Cena at WrestleMania 29, and a video recapping the match between Chris Jericho and The Miz last week along with its aftermath, The Miz, Chris Jericho, and Wade Barrett face each other in a Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship.
The match sees Barrett get the victory and retain his title, when The Miz hits Jericho with a Skull-Crushing Finale, and Barrett quickly rolls up The Miz for the 3-count.
After showing Touts of what fans think the stipulations for the match between Brock Lesnar and Triple H at WrestleMania 29 should be, Triple H’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring for the contract signing between him and Brock Lesnar.
Instead of Brock Lesnar making his way out however, Paul Heyman makes his way to the ring along with security. Paul Heyman says that the reason for the security detail is in case Triple H attempts to take his frustrations out on him.
He says that Lesnar has already signed the contract, but only once Triple H has signed it will he tell him what the stipulations are. Triple H is willing to sign it, but Heyman decides to really enjoy the moment as he rolls footage of the events between Triple H and Brock Lesnar three weeks ago.
Heyman makes suggestions as to how that could be topped, before then dismissing each suggestion, but once he suggests making it personal and having the stipulation be that the winner of the match gets Triple H’s wife Stephanie McMahon and then suggesting it would be even more fitting that the loser would get her instead, Triple H attacks him, taking out the security detail too.
Triple H decides to take his own time to enjoy the contract signing as he beats up Heyman and signs the contract on his chest, but only when he has signed and shoved him out of the ring does Brock Lesnar’s music hit and Lesnar make his way out.
Brock Lesnar makes his way to the ring with a steel chair, but Triple H grabs his own weapon too, a sledgehammer, as Triple H then dares Lesnar to go to the ring. Heyman and Lesnar stand laughing on the stage, while Heyman says that beating was worth the contract being signed, as the match between Lesnar and Triple H at WrestleMania 29 will be No Holds Barred – and the stipulation will be that Triple H’s career is on the line.
Triple H’s reaction in the ring is shown while Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman watch on from the stage, as Raw goes off the air.
