by Firefly on 17th June 2013

The 2013 WWE Payback Pay-Per-View starts with a video about how things worked in Chicago in the 1930s, and hyping the matches to take place later on in the night, followed by The Miz, Wade Barrett, and Curtis Axel (accompanied by Paul Heyman) taking on each other to kick things off.

The match sees Axel get the victory to become the new Intercontinental Champion, when he takes advantage of Barrett’s prone state during The Miz’s application of the Figure-Four Leg Lock on him, and covers Barrett for the 3-count.

After a video hyping the return of Mark Henry on the upcoming episode of Monday Night Raw, an interaction backstage involving Curtis Axel, Paul Heyman, Triple H, and Vince McMahon, and a video recapping the events of Monday Night Raw involving Kaitlyn, AJ Lee, and Big E Langston (click here for our Raw report) and of SmackDown involving Kaitlyn, Aksana, and a referee, Kaitlyn is pitted against AJ Lee (accompanied by Big E Langston) for the Divas Championship.

The match sees AJ get the victory to become the new Divas Champion, when she applies the Black Widow to Kaitlyn, forcing her to tap out. Afterwards, Kaitlyn cries in the ring and outside of it, until she is helped backstage by Layla and subsequently comforted by Layla, Alicia Fox, and Natalya, until Kaitlyn walks away.

After a video hyping the next WWE Pay-Per-View, Money In The Bank on 14th July, and a video hyping the début of the Wyatt Family, Kane goes against Dean Ambrose for the United States Championship in a match which sees Ambrose get the victory and retain his title, when Ambrose hits Kane with a DDT at the floor at ringside, and Kane is unable to re-enter the ring before being counted out.

After a video hyping the return of Rob Van Dam at the WWE Money In The Bank Pay-Per-View next month, a video recapping the match between Sheamus and Damien Sandow on the Pre-Show, and a video recapping Dolph Ziggler cashing in his Money In The Bank contract in April, Alberto Del Rio takes on Dolph Ziggler (accompanied by AJ Lee and Big E Langston) for the World Heavyweight Championship.

The match sees Del Rio get the victory to become the new World Heavyweight Champion, when he hits Ziggler with a final kick to the head (after Ziggler has taken many shots to the head throughout the match) for the 3-count.

After Del Rio celebrates and Ziggler is helped to the back, a “Don’t Try This At Home” video, Alberto Del Rio’s attempts to get the crowd to congratulate him on his victory (which they are against doing), and a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match between Chris Jericho and CM Punk, Chris Jericho is pitted against CM Punk.

The match sees Punk get the victory in front of his hometown crowd, when he hits Jericho with a GTS twice in a row for the 3-count.

Now, “The Shield” Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins go against Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan for the WWE Tag Team Championship, in a match which sees Rollins get the victory for his team to retain their titles, when Rollins hits Bryan with a running and jumping stomp to the back of the head for the 3-count.

After a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match between John Cena and Ryback, John Cena takes on Ryback in a Three Stages Of Hell match for the WWE Championship. The first match – a Lumberjack match – sees Ryback get the victory, when he powers out of a STF attempt from Cena and turns it into a Shell-Shock on Cena for the 3-count.

The second match – a Tables match – sees Cena get the victory, when he counters Ryback’s Shell-Shock attempt into an Attitude Adjustment to put Ryback through a table. As a result, the final match – an Ambulance match – will decide the victor of the Three Stages Of Hell match.

The match sees Cena get the victory and retain his title, when he hits Ryback with an Attitude Adjustment on Ryback on top of the ambulance, which results in the ambulance roof giving way and Ryback going through it to land inside.

Afterwards, John Cena celebrates while Ryback is driven away in the ambulance, and the final moments of the match are replayed from different angles as Payback goes off the air.
