The 2013 WWE Battleground Pay-Per-View starts with a video hyping the matches to take place, followed by Rob Van Dam taking on Alberto Del Rio in a Battleground Hardcore Rules match for the World Heavyweight Championship to kick off the show.

The match sees Del Rio get the victory and retain his title, when he applies the cross-armbreaker to Van Dam with the aid of a steel chair, forcing him to tap out.

After Zeb Colter addresses the crowd and insults them, Santino Marella and The Great Khali (accompanied by Hornswoggle) are pitted against “The Real Americans” Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro (accompanied by Zeb Colter) in a Tag Team match which sees Cesaro get the victory for his team, when he hits Khali with a big swing for the 3-count.

After a video recapping CM Punk’s music interrupting the match between Curtis Axel and R-Truth on Monday Night Raw and another video recapping Axel’s attack on Truth on SmackDown, Curtis Axel (accompanied by Paul Heyman) goes against R-Truth for the Intercontinental Championship, in a match which sees Axel get the victory and retain his title, when he hits Truth with a hangman’s facebuster for the 3-count.

After a video recapping the match between Damien Sandow and Dolph Ziggler on Battleground Kickoff (the Pre-Show), Brie Bella (accompanied by Nikki Bella) takes on AJ Lee (accompanied by Tamina Snuka) in a match which sees AJ get the victory and retain her title, when she takes advantage of Brie being distracted by Tamina attacking Nikki outside the ring, and rolls her up for the 3-count.

After a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match, and an interview backstage with the Rhodes Family, “The Shield” Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns (accompanied by third member, Dean Ambrose) are pitted against Cody Rhodes and Goldust (accompanied by Dusty Rhodes) in a Tag Team match with the stipulation that Cody Rhodes and Goldust will be hired by WWE if they win, but if they lose, they will never be hired by WWE and Dusty Rhodes will also be fired.

The match sees Cody Rhodes get the victory for himself and his brother to be hired, when he hits Rollins with Cross-Rhodes for the 3-count. Afterwards, the Rhodes Family celebrate on the stage, as some others come out to congratulate and celebrate with them too (including some WWE Legends).

After checking in with the Battleground Panel (comprised of Josh Mathews, The Miz, Titus O’Neil, and Tensai), and an interaction backstage involving Vickie Guerrero and Brad Maddox, Kofi Kingston goes against Bray Wyatt (accompanied by the other members of the Wyatt Family) in a match which sees Wyatt get the victory, when he hits Kingston with Sister Abigail for the 3-count.

Afterwards, the Wyatt Family attack Kingston and Bray Wyatt states that more will fall and to “Follow the Buzzards”.

After a video hyping Triple H’s Blu-Ray/DVD “Thy Kingdom Come”, and a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match, Ryback (accompanied by Paul Heyman) takes on CM Punk in a match which sees Punk get the victory, when he takes advantage of the referee being distracted by Paul Heyman, and hits Ryback with a low-blow for the 3-count.

After checking in with the Battleground Panel once again, and after a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match, Randy Orton is pitted against Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship.

The match sees no winner declared but instead end in an apparent No Contest, when The Big Show makes his way to the ring, takes out the first referee, and hits Daniel Bryan with the K.O Punch. When Scott Armstrong is sent down to the ring by Brad Maddox however, Show takes him out too – also interrupting the count, as Orton had covered the downed Bryan – and follows it up by hitting Orton with a K.O Punch too, as a wide-eyed Maddox watches on from the stage.

The camera focuses on The Big Show and the destruction he has wrought, as Battleground goes off the air.
