PPV Fusion: Payback 2014
The 2014 WWE Payback Pay-Per-View starts with a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming first match, followed by Sheamus taking on Cesaro (accompanied by Paul Heyman) for the United States Championship in a match to kick off the show.
Before the match takes place, during Paul Heyman’s speech introducing Cesaro and predicting his victory, Heyman responds to a CM Punk chant from the Chicago crowd by pointing out that Punk is not at the PPV but is instead attending a hockey game elsewhere.
The match sees Sheamus get the victory to retain his title, when Cesaro follows the swing by attempting to hit Sheamus with the Neutralizer, only for him to counter it into a small package for the 3-count instead.
After a video recapping a backstage interaction between Goldust and Cody Rhodes on the Kickoff (Pre-Show), Goldust and Cody Rhodes are pitted against “Rybaxel” Ryback and Curtis Axel in a Tag Team match which sees Ryback get the victory for his team, when he counters Rhodes’ Disaster Kick attempt by catching him and hitting him with the Shell-Shock for the 3-count.
Afterwards, Rhodes grabs a microphone and tells Goldust that he – Goldust – needs a better partner.
Next, Rusev (accompanied by Lana) goes against Big E in a match which sees Rusev get the victory, when he applies The Accolade to Big E and leaves him with no other option but to tap out.
After a video hyping the next Pay-Per-View as being Money In The Bank on 29th June, Kofi Kingston takes on Bo Dallas in a match which is declared a No Contest shortly after the bell is rung, as Kane interrupts and attacks Kingston instead.
Afterwards, Bo Dallas tells the laid out Kingston that he’ll be back on his feet in no time and better than ever, as all he and the crowd have to do is “Bo-lieve”.
After a video recapping the Hair vs. Mask match between Hornswoggle and El Torito, including its aftermath resulting from El Torito’s victory, and a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match, Rob Van Dam is pitted against Bad News Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship.
The match sees Barrett get the victory and retain his title, when he hits RVD with the Bullhammer Elbow for the 3-count.
After a video recapping Stephanie McMahon’s ultimatum from Raw that Daniel Bryan has to decide between surrendering the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Payback, or let Stephanie fire his wife Brie Bella, Stephanie McMahon, Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella each make their way to the ring for this segment.
During the segment, Stephanie’s response to a CM Punk chant is tell Bryan “these people want you to quit, just like CM Punk did”. Bryan looks like he’s going to hand over his title belts, but Brie steps in front of him and tells him not to, before turning around to confront Stephanie herself.
Brie tells Stephanie that she refuses to be a powerless victim, and that despite how much it hurts her, Stephanie can’t fire her, because she quits. Stephanie laughing after Brie’s exclamation prompts Brie to slap her, resulting in Stephanie to leave with a look of disbelief.
After a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match, Bray Wyatt (accompanied by Erick Rowan and Luke Harper) goes against John Cena (accompanied by The Usos) in a Last Man Standing match which sees Cena get the victory, when he hits Wyatt with an Attitude Adjustment that sends him into an equipment case, which he follows up by pushing over another equipment case to cover it, allowing the referee to reach then ten-count.
After a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match, Alicia Fox takes on Paige for the Divas Championship in a match which sees Paige retain her title, when Paige applies the Scorpion Crosslock to leave Alicia with no other choice but to tap out.
After a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match, “Evolution” Triple H, Randy Orton and Batista are pitted against “The Shield” Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose in a No Holds Barred Elimination match which sees Reigns get the victory for his team, when he hits Triple H with a spear for the 3-count.
The Shield celebrate in the ring over a downed Triple H, as Payback goes off the air.
