WWE Announces WWE Network’s New Launch Date for UK & Ireland

by Firefly on 5th January 2015

After previously scheduling the UK Launch date for 3rd November 2014, and pulling it less than thirty minutes before it was due to go live without giving any explanations (then or since), WWE have now announced that it will be launched in the UK and Ireland on 19th January.

Unlike the previous announcement, the pricing has also altered as it will be priced at £9.99 (or €12.99 in Ireland) per month with no commitment – which is higher than the US pricing of $9.99 when taking currency conversions into account (£6.52 / €8.32 according to xe.com), even when adding VAT (making the total £7.82 at 20% / €10.24 at 23%).

While most likely for marketing purposes so that the “9.99” references are also relevant to the UK audience (though not to Ireland’s), this price difference will be a disappointment for a number of people. As WWE Pay-Per-Views usually cost more than this however (with the forthcoming Royal Rumble costing £19.95 / €24.95), signing up to the WWE Network would still mean a saving on what people will have previously been paying and also have the benefit of access to past WWE content on demand.

The announcement video with Vince McMahon also indicates that whatever the problems were that halted the previous launch attempt, WWE are confident that it will not be pulled again this time.
