PPV Fusion: Royal Rumble 2016

by Firefly on 25th January 2016

The 2016 WWE Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View starts with a limo pulling up to the arena, with Vince and Stephanie stepping out of it and walking a short way before being interrupted by Jojo (whom Vince greets rather enthusiastically) for an interview about the night’s events to come.

After a video hyping the Royal Rumble match set to take place later in the night, things are started with a bang as Dean Ambrose takes on Kevin Owens in a Last Man Standing match for the Intercontinental Championship.

The match sees Ambrose get the victory and retain his title, when he pushes Owens off the turnbuckle, sending Owens crashing down through two tables and unable to get back to his feet to answer the referee’s count of ten.

After a video hyping shows to come soon to the WWE Network, and a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match, “The New Day” Kofi Kingston and Big E (accompanied by Xavier Woods and the newly-revealed trombone named “Francesca II”) are pitted against “The Usos” Jimmy and Jey in a match for the WWE Tag Team Championship.

The match sees Big E get the victory for his team to retain their titles, when he catches Jey Uso mid-dive and hits him with the Big Ending for the 3-count.

After a video recapping the events at the end of Monday Night Raw involving The Wyatt Family, The Wyatt Family talking on the Titantron about how they intend for things to go in the Royal Rumble match later on, and a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match, Alberto Del Rio goes against Kalisto in a match for the United States Championship.

The match sees Kalisto get the victory, when he hits Del Rio with the Salida del Sol, for the second time in the match, to get the 3-count and become the new United States Champion.

After checking in with the Royal Rumble Panel (comprised of Renee Young, Corey Graves and WWE Hall of Famers Booker T and Jerry “The King” Lawler) on their thoughts, a video recapping the Kickoff (Pre-Show) match that Mark Henry and Jack Swagger won to qualify to enter the Royal Rumble match, an interaction backstage involving Stephanie McMahon and Paul Heyman, and a video hyping Edge and Christian’s show coming soon to the WWE Network, a video hypes the next WWE Pay-Per-View, Fastlane on 21st February.

After a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match, Becky Lynch takes on Charlotte (accompanied by her father, “Nature Boy” Ric Flair) in a match for the Divas Championship. The match sees Becky on the verge of victory as she has the Disarmer applied to Charlotte, but Flair climbs upon the apron and throws his jacket into Becky’s head, forcing her to let go to take it off.

Charlotte takes advantage of the referee being distracted by Flair, when she pokes Becky in the eye and follows it up with a spear for the 3-count to retain her title. Afterwards, Charlotte continues to attack on Becky, but her celebration afterwards is cut short when Sasha Banks’ music hits, much to the approval of the crowd.

Sasha Banks makes her way to the ring looking like she’s making a bee-line straight for Charlotte, only to turn to Becky Lynch and kick her out of the ring while telling her it is her spotlight.

It appears that Sasha is on Charlotte’s side, but it is quickly revealed as a ruse, since as soon as Charlotte’s back is turned, she quickly attacks and applies the Bank Statement to her, after which Sasha celebrates with the Divas Championship to make it clear where her focus really is.

After a video hyping that WrestleMania is seventy (70) days away, and a video recapping various stats of the Royal Rumble match, it’s finally time for the Royal Rumble match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Roman Reigns was of course already known as being the first entrant, but the second is revealed to be Rusev, but Reigns eliminates him during the ten second countdown to see who will be the third entrant.

The third entrant is the surprise début of “The Phenomenal One” AJ Styles. The match sees R-Truth quickly eliminated by Kane after Truth has climbed a ladder that he set up in the ring and discovered that there was no title hanging above it.

An attack by the League of Nations on Roman Reigns sees Reigns being taken backstage for a while without having been eliminated, coming back towards the end to pick up where he left off, much to the dislike of the crowd at his return.

Brock Lesnar is eliminated by The Wyatt Family, but the 30th entrant is revealed to be Triple H. Triple H eliminates Reigns, guaranteeing a new champion, leaving himself and Dean Ambrose as the final two left in the match.

Despite Triple H’s precarious position on the ring apron, he manges to eliminate Ambrose with a back body drop to get the victory and become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Afterwards, Triple H celebrates with Vince and Stephanie McMahon, with pyro going off as Royal Rumble goes off the air.
