PPV Fusion: Royal Rumble 2018
The 2018 WWE Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View starts with a video hyping the matches to take place during the night, followed by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens taking on AJ Styles in a 2-on-1 Handicap match for the WWE Championship.
The match sees Styles get the victory and retain his title, when he countesr Owens’ Popup Powerbomb attempt into a roll-up for the 3-count.
After a video hyping that WrestleMania 34 is 70 days away, and a backstage interaction involving Shane McMahon, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin are pitted against “The Usos” Jimmy and Jey in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.
The match sees The Usos win the first fall as a result of a double superkick to Gable for the 3-count, and Jey Uso get the victory for his team to retain the titles, when he captures Benjamin in a small package for the 3-count for the second fall and overall victory.
After a video hyping the airing of WWE 24: WrestleMania Orlando set to air immediately following the Royal Rumble on the WWE Network, a video recapping past Royal Rumble match stats and hyping the imminent Men’s Royal Rumble match, and Jerry “The King” Lawler joining commentary for the upcoming match, Rusev (introduced by Aiden English) and Finn Bálor kick off the Men’s Royal Rumble match as the first two entrants.
The match sees Shinsuke Nakamura get the victory, when he eliminates Roman Reigns. Afterwards, Renee Young asks Nakamura which champion he intends to face at WrestleMania, and he chooses AJ Styles, much to the delight of the crowd who were chanting for that choice.
After a KFC ad with Ric Flair winning a “Colonel Rumble” match, the announcers recapping some tweets from AJ Styles and The Usos, and a video recapping Seth Rollins elimnating Cesaro in the earlier Royal Rumble match, Seth Rolilns and Jason Jordan go against Cesaro and Sheamus in a match for the Raw Tag Team Championship.
The match sees Cesaro get the victory for his team, when Sheamus hits Rollins with a Brogue Kick and he and Cesaro follow it up with a double team move for the 34-count, to become the new Raw Tag Team Champions.
After another video hyping WrestleMania 34, and a video recapping the events that led to the upcoming match, Braun Strowman, Kane and Brock Lesnar (accompanied by Paul Heyman) take each other on in a Triple Threat match for the Universal Championship.
The match sees Lesnar retain his title, when he hits Kane withi an F-5 onto a steel chair for the 3-count.
After a repeat of the video hyping WWE 24: WrestleMania Orlando, a video hyping a documentary on Andre The Giant which is set to air on 10th April on HBO, and a video hyping the next WWE Pay-Per-View, the Raw-exclusive Elimination Chamber in four weeks, a video trecapping the events that led to the upcoming match.
After Maria Menounos is introduced as the Special Guest Ring Announcer, Stephanie McMahon joins commentary for the upcoming match, and both Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss and SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair join ringside to watch the upcoming match, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch are revealed as the first two entrants in the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match.
The match sees Asuka get the victory, when she eliminates Nikki Bella with a kick that knocks her legs out from under her to tumble down to the floor.
Both Women’s Champions join Asuka in the ring to see who she will pick, but before she does so “Bad Reputation” hits and Ronda Rousey makes her way to the ring. Rousey points at the WrestleMania sign, offers her hand to Asuka only to be rebuffed, and points at the WrestleMania sign again before leaving the ring and going to ringside, shaking Stephanie McMahon’s hand and leaving.
Asuka, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair watch from the ring, while Stephanie McMahon watches on from ringside, as the Royal Rumble goes off the air.
