Once again it’s time for another UFC DVD review. UFC 84 ‘Ill Will’ took place on 24th of May 2008 and was held at the MGM Grand Arenain Las Vegas, Nevada. The card featured the return of Sean Sherk, who was suspended and stripped of his UFC lightweight title after he tested for steroids at UFC 73. He faced BJ Penn who had since won the vacated title. The card also featured what purportedly was Tito Ortiz’s last bout in the UFC for the foreseeable future. The smack talk went on for weeks between BJ Penn and Sean Sherk, Sherk believes to be the champ you have to beat the chap and BJ Penn did not beat him for the title. BJ said he was going out there hurt Sean Sherk and prove he is the one and only UFC lightweight champion. We also see the return of the Huntington Beach Bad Boy Tito Ortiz who took on the up and coming Lyoto Machida. Tito has said that this could be the last time he might ever fight in the UFC and he wants to go out in style. This was one of the UFC’s best events of 2008 with a great card and some great fights including, Thiago Silva vs. Antonio Mendes, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura, Wanderlei Silva vs. Keith Jardine, Tito Ortiz vs. Lyoto Machida and B.J. Penn vs. Sean Sherk for the UFC Lightweight Championship. On this 2 disc DVD set you get to see all 10 fights (in full) that took place that night. This DVD has some great extras including ‘UFC 84 behind the scenes’ which looks back at the history of BJ Peen, Sean Serk, Keith Jardine and Wanderlei Silva plus the Pre Fight Press Conference, the Weigh In Show (look out for Tito’s T-shirt) and the Post Fight Press Conference which has Dana White and Tito Ortiz in the same room with live mics! Over all this is a great 2 disc DVD set with a great fight card, (all 10 fights are some of the best I have seen one on show) the Special Features are very entertaining. This is a must have DVD for any MMA/UFC fan, if you are only new to the UFC then this is a great event to start your collection.
