Royal Rumble 2011 Expanded To 40 Entrants

by Firefly on 17th January 2011

Joey Styles has announced on Twitter that this year’s Royal Rumble match will be expanded from the usual thirty entrants to have forty instead.

This year, there will be 40 participants in the Royal Rumble Match instead of 30. It will be the biggest Royal Rumble Match in history!

The WWE Universe Twitter account suggests that it means that the match will last a minimum of 76 minutes.

Quick calculation … #RoyalRumble with 40 men at 2 min. intervals … that’s a minimum of 76 MINUTES of Rumble goodness! #WWE

It will odd to see the entrant counter going past thirty after seeing so many past Royal Rumble matches that don’t, but it’s definitely an interesting change and whether it works will remain to be seen.

If it does work, perhaps it will mean a permanent change to forty for future Rumble matches.
