Raw Fusion: Birthday Bonanza
The 2nd May 2011 episode of Monday Night Raw starts with a video recapping the events of 11th September 2001 and the WWE SmackDown! show two days later, followed by Lilian Garcia singing the US National Anthem.
Now, The Rock makes his way to the ring and talks about how he has come back home, how the US got Osama bin Laden, and how proud he is to be an American and of the troops, before continuing with how he grew up.
He starts to say his “If ya smell” catchphrase when he is interrupted by an email from the Anonymous Raw General Manager and Michael Cole who decides to start reading it out – until The Rock halts his actions.
The Rock tries to convince Cole to enter the ring and read it to his face, to which Cole is initially reluctant, but then reveals a “Celtic” top to rile up the crowd, after which he decides to finally enter the ring and tell The Rock like a man what the General Manager says.
Cole says that the GM wants an apology from The Rock for embarrassing him at WrestleMania, otherwise he will shut down the birthday party before it even gets started, and while they are at it, Cole wants an apology too, for the embarrassment and humiliation that The Rock put him in over the years.
The Rock agrees that Cole is right, and apologises before holding out his hand to Cole, but Cole seems reluctant to shake his hand. The Rock points out that they are live and he is apologising like a man, so he should either accept his apology or not.
Cole does so and thanks The Rock for the apology, before The Rock thanks him in return and hits him with the Rock Bottom, followed by the People’s Elbow. It isn’t over however as he tells them to cut his music and then talks about how this is the biggest celebration in TV as he brings out Pitbull who then sings along with Miami Heat cheerleaders dancing.
Throughout the night videos play of various celebrities wishing The Rock a happy birthday, but after a video recaps the events involving R-Truth and John Morrison last week, J.R is introduced as joining the announce table and John Morrison starts to make his way to the ring when he is attacked from behind by R-Truth.
Truth ends the attack when he hits Paydirt outside the ring, and the referees order him to leave as they try to help Morrison. As they reach the stage however, R-Truth appears again and hits Paydirt one more time.
Next up, Maryse takes on Kelly Kelly in a match which doesn’t last long until Kharma’s music hits and she makes her way to the ring, before she hits Maryse with a double-underhook facebuster and then leaving again, clearly a message sent to Kelly and the other Divas.
Backstage, The Miz asks Alex Riley where he has been and asks where he was when he lost the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules, and that his personal services contract takes legal precedence over the draft, and as a result he should start doing as he says, which starts tonight as he stands at ringside for his match later on.
He says that nobody will be talking about The Rock later on, but instead how The Miz is the new WWE Champion. Elsewhere backstage, The Rock talks to the Divas and thanks them for attending, as well as Teddy Long, before he is approached by Vladimir Kozlov.
Kozlov says that he has written a movie script for The Rock’s birthday, and introduces Santino Marella as a character from The Rock’s latest movie, followed by Marella introducing Hornswoggle as The Scorpion King, and then The Great Khali as the Tooth Fairy.
He says that he has the perfect person for the perfect title when he looks to his side to find Ron Simmons, who looks at the collection of characters and yells “DAMN!”
Back in the arena, The Miz (accompanied by Alex Riley) is pitted against John Cena for the WWE Championship in a match which sees The Miz hit Cena with the WWE Championship behind the referee’s back and get the 3-count to become the new WWE Champion, until the referee notices the title and reverses the decision, disqualifying The Miz and meaning Cena retains the title.
Afterwards, The Miz argues with Riley about it, until Cena attacks them both and forces them to bail out of the ring, before he celebrates in the ring.
After a video of Cena’s announcement at Extreme Rules of the news regarding Osama bin Laden, which happened after it went off the air, Alberto Del Rio is introduced by Ricardo Rodriguez as he joins commentary for the upcoming match.
Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston go against Jack Swagger and Drew McIntyre in a tag team match which sees Kingston hit Trouble In Paradise on McIntyre, followed by Mysterio hitting the 619 and a splash from the top rope to get the 3-count, with Mysterio giving Del Rio a dropkick as he tries to enter the ring afterwards.
After a video of the “be a STAR” anti-bullying campaign kick-off, with comments from celebrities and Triple H, we rejoin the party backstage where The Rock congratulates Christian on becoming the World Heavyweight Champion and he in return wishes The Rock a happy birthday.
Vickie Guerrero yells to excuse her as she and Dolph Ziggler talk about how they know that he loves pie, and unveils Mae Young behind a cake, who wishes him a happy birthday as Ziggler and Vickie laugh – until The Rock tells them to shut up.
He tells them that he is happy to see Mae on his birthday, and that Vickie can lose all the weight she wants, but she will never – and The Rock means NEVER – be as beautiful as Mae Young. He asks if they thought that they would get one over on The Rock, then interrupts their response when he tells them that it doesn’t matter what they think.
He thanks Mae for coming to his birthday before giving her a kiss on the lips, and then tells Ziggler and Vickie that he gets more pie in one night than Ziggler gets in an entire lifetime. The Rock turns around to find John Cena, who tells him that his gift is making the biggest match in WrestleMania history even bigger, as he will keep the WWE Championship up to WrestleMania XXVIII (28), and that if The Rock wants him, he will have to go through him. The Rock tells him to Just Bring It.
Next, Mason Ryan (accompanied by CM Punk) takes on Kane in a match which ends in Ryan getting disqualified when Punk attempts to attack Kane, after which the rest of The New Nexus make their way to the ring to help attack Kane.
Kane manages to fight the others off, but when he tries to chokeslam Ryan, Ryan pries his hand away and takes him down instead, which allows Kane to fall to the numbers advantage once again. The Big Show makes his way to the ring and starts to clear house, only to fall to a spear from Ryan, who then leaves with the rest of The New Nexus watching on in astonishment.
Now, The Rock makes his way to the ring once more and thanks the crowd for attending, his family for attending or watching from home, before he promises that next year’s WrestleMania will be the biggest and greatest WrestleMania of all time.
Vince McMahon’s music hits and he makes his way onto the stage, before he wishes The Rock a happy birthday, thanks him for allowing everyone to celebrate his birthday with him, and the day that he approached him and asked him for a chance to do something that no Superstar had ever done before, which he has done.
He continues to thank The Rock for his respect, passion, humanity, the opportunity for the crowd to say “What?”, his love of life and devotion, but most importantly for being The Rock. On behalf of the WWE, he says that they have put a birthday present for him, and leads into it with a thank you to The Rock for coming home.
A video package is shown with photos and video of The Rock growing up, WWE career, at the Hall Of Fame where he inducted his father and grandfather, and his return to the WWE wherein he promised to never go away.
Justin Roberts introduces Mýa to sing Happy Birthday to The Rock, before The Rock thanks everyone and does his “If ya smell” catchphrase, and then poses in the ring with streamers and balloons raining down from the ceiling, and pyro going off as Raw goes off the air.
