SD Fusion: Woo Woo Woo, New Assistant!

by Firefly on 2nd August 2011

The 29th July 2011 episode of Friday Night SmackDown! is kicked off by Triple H making his way to the ring and talking about how in the time since he has become the Chief Operating Officer of the WWE he has learned that the more things that you try to fix, the worse they get.

He says that he signed CM Punk late on Monday Night and that it means that there are now two WWE Champions – and both have a legitimate claim. When he turns his attention to the World Heavyweight Championship, he is interrupted by Christian.

Triple H isn’t happy about this and says that unlike Vince McMahon who had a lot of patience and was happy for people to interrupt in such a way as he saw treading on the toes of others as a way to the top (a way that Triple H himself admits to using), he sees it as a slap to the face.

R-Truth comes out and wants to continue his conversation with Triple H about the conspiracy from where he left off on Monday night (click here for our Raw report), but Triple H decides to put him in a match later on against Randy Orton, and when Christian tries to offer his advice for beating Orton, Triple H adds that Christian will be defending his title against Orton at SummerSlam, and that he also has a match next against John Morrison.

Triple H and Teddy Long’s conversation backstage is interrupted by Zack Ryder who has ideas, but Triple H doesn’t want to hear it as he says that he keeps coming to him with the ideas fifteen times a day, so he makes the decision to make Ryder the assistant to Long.

Christian’s match with John Morrison sees Christian win with the Killswitch for the 3-count.

Wade Barrett is in the ring and talks about why he left the UK to become a Superstar, saying that it was for the money not to entertain people, something which he has forgotten about the past twelve months.

He complains about Daniel Bryan winning Money In The Bank and choosing the site of the best paycheck (WrestleMania), which he says should be his. Daniel Bryan interrupts and says that Heath Slater said the same last week before he made him tap out.

Barrett can’t believe that Bryan is trying to compare him to Slater, and talks about how he moulded the people in The Nexus, which Bryan refutes about himself and says that he joined The Nexus to make a statement and as soon as Barrett saw him as a threat, he was gone.

Bryan calls it water under the bridge and says that they have both done a lot more than that including Barrett Main Eventing Pay-Per-Views, but he says that he himself is going to Main Event WrestleMania.

Barrett seems to have had enough as he knocks Bryan down, but when he tries to gloat with the Money In The Bank briefcase, Bryan makes him pay by grabbing him and applying the LeBelle Lock which makes him tap out.

Backstage, Mark Henry approaches Teddy Long about whether he did what he asked of him, but Long says that nobody wants to face him, especially because of all the problems he’s currently causing, but Zack Ryder manages to calm Henry down when he says that he will find him an opponent.

AJ, Kaitlyn, and Natalya are pitted against Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes, and Tamina in a Six-Diva Tag Team match which sees Alicia get the victory for her team when she hits AJ with a scissors kick for the 3-count.

Mark Henry has a match with a visibly scared opponent named Bobby Howard, who seems to change his mind until Zack Ryder comes out and convinces him to go ahead with it. Henry easily squashes him by hitting him with three World’s Strongest Slams (the third into a backbreaker) before getting the 3-count.

Afterwards Henry tries to set up a chair around Howard’s ankle, but Teddy Long rushes to the ring and says that he can’t let him compete when he keeps doing this, but when Henry yells at him that he wants competition, Sheamus’ music hits and he makes his way to the ring.

Sheamus says that he’ll fight Mark Henry, talking about an old Irish story about an illegitimate son of a High King that was turned into a 425lb bag of crap by a fairy, and Sheamus gets in the first shot and sends Henry out of the ring by pulling the rope down when Henry tries to rush towards him.

Henry is dissuaded from re-entering the ring due to the steel chair that Sheamus is now wielding, so he leaves instead.

Jimmy and Jey Uso go against Michael McGillicutty and David Otunga of The New Nexus for the WWE Tag Team Championships in a match which sees McGillicutty and Otunga retain the titles when McGillicutty hits a swinging neckbreaker for the 3-count.

A Raw Rebound video is shown of the WWE Championship Tournament Finals match between Rey Mysterio and The Miz and the later title match between Mysterio and John Cena and it’s aftermath involving CM Punk.

After Matt Striker’s interview with R-Truth who compares his match approach to eagles attacking a snake, Ezekiel Jackson takes on Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase in a handicap match set up earlier by Zack Ryder, which sees Rhodes get the victory by hitting Cross-Rhodes for the 3-count.

After Jinder Mahal and The Great Khali say something that ends in crowd chants of “USA”, it’s time for the match between R-Truth and Randy Orton. Orton ends up being disqualified after attacking Truth with a steel chair due to his anger at Truth hitting him with a bottle of water (the latter of which wasn’t seen by the referee due to Christian distracting him).

Orton sends a message to Christian afterwards by hitting R-Truth with two RKO’s on the announce table.

Christian clutches his title on the stage protectively, while Orton stares him down from ringside as SmackDown! goes off the air.
