SD Fusion: Santino Surprise
The 17th February 2012 episode of Friday Night SmackDown! Starts with a video recapping the events of last week’s match between Randy Orton and The Big Show, along with the interruption by Daniel Bryan.
Randy Orton is seen sitting with Teddy Long, where Long tells Orton that despite being dressed to compete, he can’t let him as he has a concussion and is not medically cleared. He says that Bryan will get his, but that it will not be from Orton – or at least not on this episode.
He says that at this moment, Bryan is not yet at the building, but that outside the door are Security, who are waiting to escort Orton out of the building, as Long knows how Orton can be, and he says that Orton can not compete on this episode of on Sunday at the Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View.
Now, The Big Show and The Great Khali take on Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett in a tag team match which sees Show get the victory for his team, when he hits Barrett with a spear, and follows it up (after pushing Rhodes over the rope and out of the ring) with a chokeslam for the 3-count.
Afterwards, Khali approaches Show, who takes him out when he hits him with the Weapon Of Mass Destruction, sending a message that it is every man for themselves in the Elimination Chamber match at the Pay-Per-View of the same name.
An interaction between Teddy Long and Mark Henry sees Henry demand to be put in the Elimination Chamber match, but it is then interrupted by Show demanding a match with Daniel Bryan and resulting in a confrontation between Show and Henry, which Show responds to by hitting Henry with the Weapon Of Mass Destruction and trashing Long’s office as he demands to get what he wants.
After an interaction between Long and security staff, the latter of whom aren’t looking forward to dealing with The Big Show, and a video recapping the match last week between Hunico and Ted DiBiase, Ted DiBiase is pitted against Hunico (accompanied by Camacho) in a match which sees Hunico get the victory, when he takes advantage of the interference by Camacho (which is unseen by the referee) and rolls DiBiase up for the 3-count.
After a video recapping the events of Monday Night Raw involving Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and The Undertaker (click here for our Raw report), The Usos (Jimmy & Jey) go against Epico and Primo (accompanied by Rosa Mendes) in a tag team match which sees Primo get the victory, when he hits one of The Usos with the backstabber for the 3-count.
Next, Daniel Bryan makes his way to the ring and talks about how everyone must have seen what he did on Raw, and says that he just got two for the price of one. He says that it was finally time for him to declare himself, and show who he really is and what he is all about.
He says that he did just that and rolls footage of his actions, and he says that he understands that The Big Show has been escorted out of the building, just like Randy Orton. Bryan says that it is convenient and that if they were real men and had any guts, they would be facing him in the ring right now – but they aren’t as they are afraid.
Bryan says that he can smell that everyone is afraid of him, and that they are afraid of tapping out and looking ridiculous by him beating them once again, as he just keeps on winning. He says that he knows that none of the fans ever thought that he would be the World Heavyweight Champion, and that none thought he had what it took, but he proved everyone wrong.
He says that on Sunday in the Elimination Chamber (at the Pay-Per-View of the same name), he will do so once again. Bryan says that he knows that he is facing overwhelming odds, but he has been beating the odds for his entire life, and that just as sure as he would have beaten Randy Orton in the advertised match for this episode of SmackDown!, he will emerge victorious in the Elimination Chamber.
Bryan says that this is because Orton is not here, and just to make it official, he asks Lilian Garcia to announce him as the winner of the match by forfeit. He encourages her to do so, so eventually she does, after which he celebrates in his over-the-top manner as usual.
His celebration is interrupted however by Teddy Long’s music hitting and him making his way out onto the stage, where he says that Daniel Bryan hasn’t even competed yet, which everyone in the arena wants to see, and though it won’t be Randy Orton due to medical reasons, he has someone who has happily volunteered – the volunteer is then revealed to be Sheamus.
The match sees Bryan get the victory as a result of a disqualification, when Bryan spits at Sheamus and goads him, forcing the referee to call for the bell due to Sheamus’ retaliation that the referee is unable to stop.
An interaction backstage between Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, and Teddy Long sees Barrett and Rhodes ask who the replacement participant will be in SmackDown!’s Elimination Chamber match, only to be told that it will be the winner of the “Wildcard” Battle Royal.
Back in the arena, Jinder Mahal takes on Ezekiel Jackson in a match which sees Mahal get the victory, when he forces Jackson to tap out to the Camel Clutch.
Next up, Tamina Snuka and Alicia Fox are pitted against Beth Phoenix and Natalya in a tag team match which sees Tamina take advantage of Natalya’s argument with the referee (as Natalya supposedly broke wind and the referee had to shy away from the smell), and get the victory by hitting Natalya with a Samoan drop that she follows up with a Snuka Splash for the 3-count.
Afterwards, Tamina hits an incoming Beth with a superkick, and then climbs up to the top rope to get ready to hit a Snuka Splash on Beth, but the Divas Champion avoids it by rolling out of the ring instead.
After an interaction between Teddy Long, John Laurinaitis, and David Otunga, which sees Laurinaitis enter Otunga in the upcoming Wildcard Battle Royal, and a video recapping the events of Raw involving John Cena, Kane, Eve Torres, and Zack Ryder, it’s time for the Wildcard Battle Royal to determine who will take Randy Orton’s place in the SmackDown! Elimination Chamber for the World Heavyweight Championship on Sunday.
The match sees Santino Marella get the victory, when he counters David Otunga’s attempt to eliminate him from the Battle Royal, and eliminates Otunga instead.
Marella celebrates in the ring, as SmackDown! goes off the air.
