Raw Fusion: Back Against The Wall
The 5th March 2012 episode of Monday Night Raw starts with Shawn Michaels making his way to the ring and talking about how the greatest thing about the “HBK” chant is that it gives him a chance to catch his breath as he is not used to doing that stuff any more.
He then talks about how he came to Raw a few weeks ago and caused trouble when he was trying to convince Triple H to accept the match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania, only to fail. Shawn says that he is there to find out from directly from Triple H what made him change his mind.
Triple H makes his way to the ring, and Michaels talks about how he was unable to convince Triple H himself despite attempting all the tricks he could think of, and then rolls the footage from two weeks ago of Triple H finally accepting The Undertaker’s challenge.
Triple H says that it was nothing to do with Shawn or himself being better than each other, but instead that he is tired of listening to people like The Undertaker talk behind Michaels’ back about how he couldn’t get the job done.
He says that he believes with every fibre of his being that Michaels I the greatest in-ring performer of all-time, so it pains him to look at him as a loser. Triple H says that this is why he is going to end The Undertaker, his streak, and an era, as he is going to do what everyone says that Shawn Michaels couldn’t do – and he will do it for himself and just as much for Michaels too.
Shawn Michaels says that it hurt him to tell Triple H that he couldn’t get it done last year (click here for our WrestleMania XXVII report), and that he then sat down and watched as Triple H went out there and dominated The Undertaker, before then losing and making Michaels right.
He says that he knows who will win this year too, and that he will be right again. He starts to leave, but then walks back to Triple H and informs him that the reason that he knows that is because he has been made the Special Guest Referee for the Hell In A Cell match between Triple H and The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVIII (28).
Next, Santino Marella takes on Jack Swagger (accompanied by Vickie Guerrero and Dolph Ziggler) for the United States Championship in a match which sees John Laurinaitis, David Otunga, Teddy Long, Aksana, and Kofi Kingston watch at ringside, and sees Marella get the victory to become the new United States Champion, when he counters the ankle-lock and sends Swagger into the turnbuckle, followed by rolling him up for the 3-count.
Afterwards, Laurinaitis interrupts and says that Raw is his show. Long corrects him by saying that it used to be his show, and says that he is going to give the WWE Universe a present, as he then calls for security to escort Laurinaitis and Otunga out of the building.
Justin Roberts continues from where he was interrupted, and announces Santino Marella as the new United States Champion, and then Santino Marella, Teddy Long, Kofi Kingston, and Aksana celebrate by running around in the ring with invisible trumpets.
After a video of The Rock in Boston earlier in the day, in which he throws John Cena’s merchandise into the harbour, Kelly Kelly joins commentary as Eve Torres is pitted against Alicia Fox in a match which sees Eve get the victory, when she sweets Alicia’s legs and pins her for the 3-count.
Afterwards, Zack Ryder’s music hits and he makes his way out onto the stage with a walking stick, where he tells Eve not to bother and that he is glad that they never hooked up, as they say “broskis before hoeskis”, finishing his statement with a “Woo Woo Woo, You Know It!” and leaving again.
After an interaction backstage between Eve and Zack Ryder, where she says that she has something to tell him and then kisses him before walking away, leaving a goofy look on his face, A video of John Cena in the arena earlier in the day sees Cena commenting on how grew up in Boston and how he needs to win in his match against The Rock at WrestleMania XXVIII (28), as it is everything to him and that nobody remembers second place.
After a video recapping Chris Jericho’s attack on CM Punk last week, CM Punk and Sheamus go against Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan (accompanied by AJ) in a tag team match which sees Chris Jericho get the victory for his team, when he counters Punk’s pin into his own for the 3-count.
After another video of The Rock in Boston earlier in the day, with him commenting on what it would be like if John Cena was the one to ride in instead of Paul Revere, and also sees him sing “Johnny Cena went to town riding on a pony, Rock stuck a feather up his ass and called him a jabroni!”, The Miz takes on The Big Show.
Before the match takes place however, Cody Rhodes makes an appearance, and although Rhodes doesn’t have a clip of Show losing another match at another WrestleMania, he instead has a clip that he then rolls of Show with the fans in The World (WWE’s former restaurant) in Times Square during WrestleMania X8.
The Miz attempts to take advantage of the distraction, but Show gets the victory, when he hits The Miz with a spear, and then follows it up with the Weapon Of Mass Destruction for the 3-count.
After a third video of The Rock in Boston earlier in the day, where he talks about how Americans fought for their independence and how “The Rock Revolution” will overthrow John Cena at WrestleMania, and a video recapping Kane’s attack on Randy Orton last week on SmackDown! (click here for our SmackDown! report), R-Truth is pitted against Kane in a match which sees Kane get the victory, when he hits Truth with a chokeslam for the 3-count.
Afterwards, Randy Orton makes his way to the ring and takes advantage of R-Truth grabbing Kane’s leg, by hitting Kane with an RKO. He then asks for a microphone, before standing over the downed Kane and telling him that it is good to be back, and then leaving.
Next up, John Cena makes his way to the ring in front of his home-town crowd, with the crowd giving off heavy boos. He says that he thought that they would be excited, as he says that the arena is packed and that he doesn’t think that they could fit anyone else in the building.
He talks about how The Rock is back, the “real Rock” as he puts it and the one he wants to face, and how last week The Rock was shaken. He says that he doesn’t want to beat the second best at WrestleMania and instead wants to beat the best, as he then says to bring on The Rock and points in the direction of the titantron.
The Rock obliges him as his music hits and he does indeed make his way to the ring, where he says that “Finally, The Rock has come back to Boston!”. Approaching Cena, he says that he sees fear that everything he has worked for goes away when The Rock beats him at WrestleMania, and that he hears the fear and doubt in his words and sees right through Cena.
As for his own confidence being shaken, The Rock says that he has never been more confident in his life. The Rock says that if you strip everything away, at his core is 6′ 4”, 260lbs who will rip Cena’s throat out, and at Cena’s core is a little boy who will go down in history as always The Rock’s bitch.
The Rock then leaves, but John Cena says that The Rock’s height and weight does not intimidate him one bit, and that as for ripping his throat out, that is exactly what he will have to do to beat Cena, as The Rock has other options but Cena’s back is against the wall.
John Cena says that The Rock is half-right as if he loses, then he loses everything, but if The Rock thinks for a second that Cena is afraid of him, then he has lost his mind. As for making him his bitch, he says that he also has that half-right, as at WrestleMania he will be the son of a bitch who will be whipping The Rock’s ass.
John Cena celebrates with fans and his family at ringside, as Raw goes off the air.
