SD Fusion: Era Of Enlightenment
The 4th May 2012 episode of Friday Night SmackDown! starts with Sheamus’ music hitting and him making his way to the ring to kick off the show.
Sheamus talks about how he is out to do what he loves to do, which is fight, and he says that he doesn’t care where, which he says is exactly what he is going to do in the next few minutes. He says that Daniel Bryan almost tore his left shoulder off at Extreme Rules (click here for our Extreme Rules report), and that on this episode Bryan wants to finish the job, so earlier tonight when Sheamus was asked if he wanted to fight Daniel Bryan, he gave a one word answer – Yes! Yes! Yes!
Daniel Bryan’s music hits and he makes his way out as Sheamus continues to yell “Yes!” along with the crowd chanting it at the same time, and the match then takes place between Sheamus and Daniel Bryan.
The match sees Sheamus get the victory as a result of a disqualification, when Ricardo Rodriguez and Alberto Del Rio interrupt the match in full view of the referee and attack Sheamus, with Del Rio then putting Sheamus into the cross-armbreaker.
Bryan adds to the punishment by following that up with the Yes Lock, but Bryan then expresses his displeasure at Del Rio’s interference in the ring as Sheamus is lead to the back by the referees.
After Sheamus is shown being seen to by medical personnel, and a video recapping the tag team match on Monday Night Raw which resulted in Kofi Kingston and R-Truth become the new WWE Tag Team Champions (click here for our Raw report), AW (Abraham Washington), Rosa Mendes, Epico, and Primo watch on from the stage, as Kofi Kingston and R-Truth take on Hunico and Camacho in a tag team match.
The match sees R-Truth get the victory for his team, when he hits Camacho with the jumping reverse STO for the 3-count.
Next, “Funkasaurus” Brodus Clay (accompanied by the “Funkadactyls” Cameron and Naomi) is pitted against Jack Swagger (accompanied by Vickie Guerrero and Dolph Ziggler) in a match which sees Clay get the victory, when Swagger is counted out due to refusing to re-enter the ring, instead starting to leave with Vickie and Ziggler.
After a video recapping the match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar at Extreme Rules and the events of Raw involving John Cena and John Laurinaitis, an interaction involving Eve Torres, Daniel Bryan, Alberto Del Rio, and Ricardo Rodriguez sees Bryan demand his match with Sheamus take place again due to the interference, and sees Eve state that she will decide whether Sheamus will compete later on in the episode once she has consulted with the Doctors at ringside.
Now, Damien Sandow makes his début in a match set to have him pitted against Derrick Bateman, but which instead doesn’t happen, as Sandow proclaims that he is here to help all of the fans and that this was supposed to be a night that ushered in a new era of enlightenment, but in order to become a true role model for the fans, he can not and will not have the match with the “miscreant” in the ring, who he also calls a “simple-minded ignoramus” that he says is just like the fans.
As Sandow leaves, Bateman grabs a microphone and says that five months ago on NXT, he won a match to earn an opportunity on SmackDown!, so regardless of who is in charge, he wants a match. His request is granted, as Ryback makes his way out to face him.
The match sees Ryback get the victory, when he hits Bateman with the muscle-buster for the 3-count.
Now, Kane and Cody Rhodes go against The Big Show and Randy Orton in a tag team match which sees Show get the victory for his team, when Show counters Rhodes’ attempt at the Beautiful Disaster kick, and follows it up with the Weapon of Mass Destruction for the 3-count.
After an interaction backstage involving Matt Striker and Sheamus in which Sheamus states that he came to fight and that is exactly what he is going to do, Layla takes on Natalya in a match which sees Layla get the victory, when she hits Natalya with the Layout-neckbreaker for the 3-count.
After an interaction involving Aksana, Eve Torres, Antonio Cesaro, and Teddy Long in Cesaro’s photoshoot and which sees Long forced to rub oil on Cesaro, an interaction involving AJ and Kaitlyn sees AJ apologise for slapping Kaitlyn last week, but end with AJ slapping Kaitlyn again, this time knocking her down, and AJ then walking away.
After a video recapping the events of Raw involving Triple H and Brock Lesnar on Raw, and a video recapping the match interruption earlier on, Alberto Del Rio joins commentary as Daniel Bryan is pitted against Sheamus in a match which sees Sheamus get the victory, when he counters Bryan’s dive from the turnbuckle with a Brogue Kick for the 3-count.
Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez watch on from the stage while Sheamus celebrates in the ring, as SmackDown! goes off the air.
