SD Fusion: Martyrs & Mayhem

by Firefly on 31st July 2012

The 27th July 2012 episode of Friday Night SmackDown! starts with a video recapping some of the highlights of the 1000th episode of Monday Night Raw (click here for our Raw report), followed by The Miz’s music hitting and him making his way to the ring.

After a video recapping his match with Christian on Raw to win the Intercontinental Championship, The Miz says that we are looking at the new face of the Intercontinental Championship, and he has every one of Christian’s fans to thank for that, as they are the ones who voted for Christian to defend his title at the 1000th episode of Monday Night Raw – and Christian lost.

The Miz is about to say that he is awesome, but he is interrupted by Christian’s music hitting and him making his way to the ring, where he says that what is awesome is that he’s not waiting to invoke his rematch clause, but is instead invoking it right there, right now.

The match sees The Miz get the victory and retain his title, when he pokes Christian in the eye when the referee isn’t looking, and then rolls him up with the use help of the tights for the 3-count.

Next, Jinder Mahal takes on Ryback in a match which sees Ryback get the victory as a result of a count-out, when Mahal exits the ring and starts to leave up the ramp, refusing to re-enter the ring to continue the match.

After a video recapping the events involving John Cena, CM Punk, The Big Show, and The Rock on Raw, and an interaction backstage involving Sheamus and Daniel Bryan in which Sheamus presents Bryan with a photo of their WrestleMania match, Sheamus is pitted against Cody Rhodes in a match which sees Sheamus get the victory, when he hits Rhodes with the Brogue Kick for the 3-count.

Afterwards, Dolph Ziggler teases that he is going to cash in his Money In The Bank contract, until he climbs back down from the apron, not doing so after all. Chris Jericho appears however, shoving Ziggler into the ring where he is then hit with a Brogue Kick by Sheamus.

Jericho enters the ring, and when Ziggler gets back to his feet, he hits Ziggler with a Codebreaker and then leaves once again.

Now, Antonio Cesaro (accompanied by Aksana) goes against Santino Marella in a match which sees Cesaro get the victory, when he hits Marella with the Gotch Style Neutralizer for the 3-count.

After a video recapping the events involving Degeneration-X and Damien Sandow on Raw, Yoshi Tatsu takes on Damien Sandow in a match which sees Sandow get the victory, when he hits Tatsu with the cross-armed neckbreaker for the 3-count.

Afterwards, Sandow says that for those who enjoyed what happened to him on Raw, he is their martyr, and they are welcome.

After a video hyping the SummerSlam Pay-Per-View on the 19th August, and recapping the events on Raw involving Triple H, Paul Heyman, Stephanie McMahon, and Brock Lesnar, which led to a match between Triple H and Lesnar being agreed for SummerSlam, Rey Mysterio, Kane, Daniel Bryan, and Alberto Del Rio are pitted against each other in a Fatal Four-Way match to determine the number one contender to face Sheamus at SummerSlam.

The match sees Del Rio get the victory, when Mysterio hits Del Rio and Bryan with a double 619 and follows it up with a diving splash from the turnbuckle, where Ricardo Rodriguez pulls Mysterio out of the ring and which allows Del Rio to take his place and cover Bryan for the 3-count.

Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez celebrate in the ring, as SmackDown! goes off the air.
