SD Fusion: Reinstated, Sucka!
The 17th August 2012 episode of Friday Night SmackDown! starts with a video recapping the events of the last few weeks involving Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio, followed by Alberto Del Rio making his way to the ring with Ricardo Rodriguez to kick off the show.
Alberto Del Rio says that he wants his World Heavyweight Championship match back right now, and says that his car that the “peasant” Sheamus stole can’t be fixed, and that Sheamus was rewarded by having the title match at SummerSlam cancelled.
He says that he is the Number One Contender, and that he won’t leave the ring until he gets his match reinstated. Booker T’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring, where he says that he didn’t expect this from Del Rio, and asks what his problem is as he has been a pain in his side ever since he became the General Manager.
Booker says that what Del Rio did was step overstepping his boundaries, and that he won’t tolerate that on the show. Del Rio says that he earned his Number One Contender spot a long time ago, and starts to say that he spoke with his lawyers, but is interrupted by saying anything more as Chris Jericho’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring, where he tells Del Rio to shut the hell up.
Chris Jericho says that nobody care about Alberto Del Rio or anything about him, and comments that he sounds like a chihuahua, and when Del Rio says something in Spanish, Jericho fires back in Spanish too, telling Del Rio that his breath smells like dog poop.
He says that he has a proposition of his own, namely that after he beats Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam, perhaps he will take Del Rio’s spot in the match against Sheamus and become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Del Rio says that he already saw one peasant steal his car, and that he won’t see another one steal his title match. Booker T says that his word was already laid down and that Sheamus will not compete at SummerSlam, but he makes a main event for this episode by making a match between Chris Jericho and Alberto Del Rio.
Next, Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara take on The Miz and Cody Rhodes in a Tag Team match, but before that match takes place, Rhodes has something to say. He says that last week he tried to unmask Cara and expose the nightmare that is his face.
He suggests that people avert their eyes, as with the help of eyewitnesses and an artist’s rendition, he presents what he calls “Sin Cara, Unmasked” on the titantron. The match sees Mysterio get the victory, when he takes advantage of Rhodes’ attempts to unmask Cara as he is in the ropes, by hitting Rhodes with a 619 followed by a diving splash for the 3-count.
Now, Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins are set to compete in a Tag Team match, but before we find out who their opponents are and the match takes place, the pair attempt to get noticed by taking off their clothes as their music plays.
The two men that they face are not mentioned, but the match sees Reks get the victory for his team, when he and Hawkins hit one of the men with a double-team move for the 3-count.
After an interaction backstage involving Eve Torres and William Regal, in which Regal is told to take out the trash, a video hyping Wade Barrett, and a video recapping the Divas Tag Team match on Monday Night Raw (click here for our Raw report), Teddy Long joins commentary as Kaitlyn is pitted against Eve Torres to determine who will become Booker T’s assistant.
The match sees Eve get the victory and become Booker T’s new assistant, when she hits Kaitlyn with a snap swinging neckbreaker for the 3-count.
After an interaction involving Eve Torres and Booker T backstage, Daniel Bryan goes against Randy Orton in a match which sees Orton get the victory, when Orton takes advantage of the distraction provided by Kane’s pyro and music going off, by hitting Bryan with an RKO for the 3-count. Afterwards, Kane makes his way out onto the stage and smiles at the downed Bryan.
Next up, Santino Marella joins commentary as Antonio Cesaro (accompanied by Aksana) takes on “Long Island Iced Z” Zack Ryder, though not before Cesaro says “loser” in five different languages. The match sees Cesaro get the victory, when he hits Ryder with the Gotch Style Neutralizer for the 3-count.
Afterwards, Cesaro approaches Marella at ringside and knocks the headset off him, followed by pushing him over the announce table, apparently in order to send a message before their United States Championship match that is set to take place on the SummerSlam Pre-Show.
Now, Alberto Del Rio is set to take on Chris Jericho, but as Jericho is shown walking through the halls backstage, he is attacked by Dolph Ziggler, until Booker T and referees get on the scene and see to the downed Jericho.
In the ring, Del Rio taunts Jericho about what happened and suggests that it means that he wins by forfeit. Addressing Booker T, he demands that he come out right now and grant him with his SummerSlam match, but he is instead answered by Chris Jericho’s music hitting and the hurt Jericho making his way to the ring to go ahead with the scheduled match.
The match sees Del Rio get the victory, when he takes advantage of the interference provided by Dolph Ziggler out of view of the referee, and hits Jericho with the an enzuigiri for the 3-count.
Afterwards, Alberto Del Rio puts Chris Jericho in the cross-armbreaker as Dolph Ziggler continues to taunt Jericho, until Sheamus’ music hits and he makes his way to the ring with a bee-line to Del Rio, quickly starting to attack him until Del Rio manages to gain the upper-hand.
Del Rio ends up bailing out into the crowd when his upper-hand is lost however, prompting Booker T’s music to hit and him make his way out onto the stage where he asks Sheamus what he is doing there.
Sheamus says that he wants Booker to reinstate his match with Del Rio at SummerSlam, and when Booker tries to use Sheamus being injured as an excuse not to, Sheamus says that even if his arm was ripped off, it would not stop him from competing in the ring.
Booker points out that if he does reinstate it, it would be for the World Heavyweight Championship, and he asks if he realises that. Sheamus says that the only person that wants the match reinstated more than Del Rio is himself, so he asks Booker T once more to reinstate the match.
Booker T says that if it is what he wants, to which Sheamus agrees that it is, then the match is back on – Sheamus facing Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam.
Sheamus stands in the ring staring at the applauding Del Rio in the crowd, as SmackDown! goes off the air.
