Silver Vision & WWE To Part Ways

by Firefly on 21st September 2012

After twenty two years as the official distributor and licensee for WWE releases in the UK and Europe, Silver Vision (part of Clear Vision Ltd.) have announced that their run with the WWE will end on the 31st December 2012.

As a result, the last releases that will be produced by them will be SummerSlam 2012 and nWo: The Revolution, and they will only continue selling WWE DVDs, Films, and Blu-Rays after the end of the year while stocks last.

It is currently unknown as to who the new licensee will be, but it has been stated in a clarification on Facebook that in addition to the aforementioned WWE releases while stocks last, will go forward after the end of the year as an outlet for other titles that are licensed by Clear Vision Ltd.

Silver Vision has been especially notable for releasing the WWE “Tagged Classics” series of DVDs, as it allowed re-releases of old WWF events that they had produced before the name change to WWE, without being subject to the logo blurring and audio censoring of the name.

In regards to who the new licensee will be, I wouldn’t be surprised if WWE decided to sell directly to the UK and Europe themselves, particularly considering that they also closed (which was run by Topps) recently and started redirecting it to (I wasn’t aware of the closure myself until I saw one of the comments on the Facebook clarification above) – this is purely speculation on my part however, and it is very possible that I am wrong.
