Enough is Enough…The Bullshit Must End

by Chris Gorst on 13th July 2008

Right, I am writing this as someone who has been watching WWE again (after a self imposed hiatus) for the last 2 months, I have watched RAW, Smackdown! and Pay Per View. I have also seen TNA iMPACT and TNA Pay Per Views (I never stopped watching TNA though). My problem is something I’ve seen on a lot of forums criticising the TNA booking, complaints like “there are too many run-ins” or “yet another Team 3D match ending with a DQ” or “it’s all Russo’s fault”. I also write this while watching Night of Champions, a Pay Per View I have actually shelled out money to watch. And I for one, am sick of this bullshit. Allow me to elaborate.

I have just finished watching the Edge vs Batista match. Not a bad match, but really, nothing spectacular. Until the ending that is. We see Vickie Guerrero being wheeled down the ramp (why is she still in a wheelchair by the way? Anyone who answers will win something), but Ryder and Hawkins. Obviously, we’re getting another bullshit finish. So, Edge is getting pinned following a spinebuster, Vickie pulls the ref out of the ring to break the count. Edge then rolls to the outside and is about to be counted out, he then pulls the referee out of the ring and lays him out, this is normally a DQ, but being WWE, here comes Chavo wearing a referee’s shirt. This leads to Vickie being dragged into the ring and then thrown over the top, which allows Edge to win following a belt shot and Chavo making the count. Now this wouldn’t be so bad, but this isn’t the first time tonight a match has had outside interference.

The United States Championship match saw numerous interferences from Bam Neeley who was cornering Chavo to the ring. Matt won, but we still had repeated interference. Then there was Kofi Kingston vs Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental championship which had interference from Shawn Michaels. So, 3 matches on the Night of Champions have had interference in them, not to mention SmackDown! over the past few weeks.

Every week on SmackDown! for the last few months, any match containing Edge or Chavo or Matt Hardy or Batista or Undertaker have likely had run-ins or DQ finishes or bullshit stipulations. Now, don’t get me wrong and don’t think I am bashing WWE for no reason, the way I look at it, on TV, when done right, they can be used to great effect and can make a storyline or a feud seem more intense, but when done 4 weeks running, it isn’t effective, it is overkill. Don’t believe me:
May 16th SmackDown! – May 30th SmackDown: La Familia constantly attacked Undertaker, usually getting beaten down in the process making the whole stable look like a joke
WWE One Night Stand: Edge defeated the Undertaker in a TLC match following interference from Vickie Guerrero, Chavo Guerrero, Bam Neeley, Zach Ryder and Curt Hawkins
June 6th SmackDown!: Batista, Nunzio, Funaki and Colin Delaney defeated Edge, Chavo Guerrero, Zach Ryder and Kurt Hawkins w/Bam Neeley, yes, Batista + 3 jobbers vs a supposed super stable
June 13th SmackDown!: Batista vs The Great Khali, if Batista loses, he is banished from WWE
June 20th SmackDown!: Chavo Guerrero defeated Batista with Edge as special referee
June 27th SmackDown!: Batista defeated Umaga by DQ, because he was destroyed by Edge, Chavo and the rest of the JOB squad. Then Triple H ran in and cleaned house.

That leads us to tonights bullshit finish. I am not saying this is limited to WWE, I understand TNA does it, although in fairness, mostly on television which is free, not something I am paying £14.95. I wouldn’t even mind if it was a single pay per view match, but this is 3 matches on the same pay per view that have had bullshit finishes.
