PPV Fusion: Night Of Champions 2010

by Firefly on 20th September 2010

The PPV kicks off with Michael Cole introducing himself, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and Matt Striker, sending it to Tony Chimel in the ring for our first match, which is the Intercontinental Championship match between Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston, with the stipulation that if Ziggler gets counted out or disqualified, the title changes hands.

Chimel gets interrupted with an “Excuse Me!” from Vickie Guerrero who is accompanied by her Rookie Kaitlyn, with Vickie introducing Ziggler (making sure to look at Kaitlyn when she says the part about Ziggler being her boyfriend).

Ziggler successfully retains the title by hitting the Zig-Zag after Kingston misses Trouble In Paradise and hits the ropes instead. Afterwards The Miz stars in a video promoting Paper Jamz (the sponsor of the PPV) and Todd Grisham interviews Edge backstage.

Edge suggests that Grisham instead ask the other participants of the Six-Pack Challenge how they plan on beating him, saying that this is the kind of night where he rises to the occasion and shocks people by living up to his moniker of the “Ultimate Opportunist” by winning the WWE Championship.

Next, CM Punk takes on The Big Show in the only non-title match on the Pay-Per-View. After his own entrance, getting cheers from the home-town crowd, he grabs a microphone and talks about how much he loves Chicago, but says what he hates are its inhabitants, saying that they ruined his beautiful city, insulting them and saying that they make him sick.

Punk says that he is proud to live in and be from Chicago, but not proud to live amongst people like them, calling them scum of the earth and saying that for a second time it should be burned to the ground, and he (and he alone) should build it into a Straight-Edge Utopia.

He says that unlike others in the same position, he has not ran away when faced with The Big Show, saying that he is David, Show is Goliath, and his slingshot is the power of Straight-Edge, with Show then making his way to the ring. The match ends with Show getting the victory after a tackle followed by a knock-out punch.

Going backstage, Josh Mathews interviews Chris Jericho, who says that he wasn’t lucky to be put in the match, but that the General Manager instead looked at his successful history. He says that his modus operandi is simple – eliminate his opponents, and that he will walk out as the WWE Champion because he is the best in the world at what he does.

After a video showing the history between The Miz and Daniel Bryan and the events over the past few weeks, they go head-to-head (with The Miz being accompanied by Alex Riley) in a match for the United States Championship. Daniel Bryan becomes the new champion after forcing The Miz to tap out to the LeBell Lock.

After a video hyping the Hell In A Cell Pay-Per-View which will take place in two weeks, Josh Mathews interviews John Cena, with Cena talking about chances and saying that it means nothing as nobody can tell what will happen – but you can never count him out.

Now it’s time for the Title-Unification Lumberjill match pitting the Divas Champion Melina against the Women’s Champion Michelle McCool. The match ends with McCool getting the victory after a boot to the face, with Layla celebrating with Michelle afterwards to show that unlike first appearances, LayCool is still together.

After a video telling us not to copy the Superstars, Todd Grisham interviews Wade Barrett who says that he has listened to what his opponents have said tonight, but that although they represent greatness, they also represent the status quo in the WWE.

Having stated a long time ago that the winds of change are blowing in the WWE, he says has the chance to prove that, along with him being the future of the WWE and the new WWE Champion.

After a video hyping the past between Kane and The Undertaker as well as the events that led to now, they face each other in a No Holds Barred match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Kane retains the title after reversing The Undertaker’s attempt at a Tombstone Piledriver into one of his own.

After a video promoting the DVD release at Walmart of “Legendary” starring John Cena, it’s Randy Orton’s turn to be interviewed by Todd Grisham – but when asked whether he has anything to say, he says no.

The WWE Tag Team Championships are on the line now in a Tag Team Turmoil match, with the teams consisting of current champions The Hart Dynasty, Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov, Mark Henry and Evan Bourne, and “Dashing” Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre.

The teams kicking the match off are the reigning champions and The Usos (accompanied by Tamina), with The Hart Dynasty being eliminated. The next team to join the match is Marella and Kozlov, with Marella getting beaten with a Samoan Drop thanks to the distraction by Tamina.

Evan Bourne and Mark Henry are in, and they manage to eliminate The Usos after Bourne hits Airbourne. The final team of “Dashing” Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre become the new WWE Tag Team Champions after Rhodes hits Bourne with Cross-Rhodes.

After a video hyping Alberto Del Rio and a video showing some of the history of the WWE Championship and the events involving the participants of the Six-Pack Challenge match, it’s time for Sheamus to be interviewed by Josh Mathews.

Sheamus says that he’s not concerned, and that he’s the WWE Champion because he wins, no matter what the stipulation is, and that he doesn’t care what anybody has to say as he is going to leave with a smile on his face and the WWE Championship on his shoulder.

Next, it’s the Six-Pack Challenge match, and Chris Jericho is the first person eliminated after only a couple of minutes, with the others in the match being just as shocked as he is. Thanks to the distraction by the other members of The Nexus, Barrett eliminates Cena after hitting The Wasteland.

Orton eliminates Barrett with an RKO, and becomes the new WWE Champion after hitting Sheamus with another RKO after countering the High-Cross. Afterwards, we see a video showing the highlights of the match, and then Orton celebrating his victory with a big smile on his face as Night Of Champions goes off the air.

Prediction Results:

Like we did with SummerSlam, we made our predictions for Night Of Champions on our Twitter account – please see below for them and to find out whether we were right.

Prediction: Dolph Ziggler to retain the Intercontinental Championship.
Result: Correct.

Prediction: CM Punk to defeat The Big Show.
Result: Incorrect.

Prediction: Daniel Bryan to win the United States Championship.
Result: Correct.

Prediction: Melina to become the Unified Divas/Women’s Champion.
Result: Incorrect. Very surprising, having expected her to win and LayCool to split and feud with each other.

Prediction: Kane to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
Result: Correct. It seems logical for this to continue with a Hell In A Cell match in two weeks, maybe even continuing until a final match at WrestleMania that results in retirement for either one or both of them.

Prediction: “Dashing” Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions.
Result: Correct. Though the expectation was a regular tag team match between The Hart Dynasty and the two, instead of it being a number of teams in a Tag Team Turmoil.

Prediction: John Cena to become the new WWE Champion.
Result: Incorrect.

Prediction: The Miz to cash in Money In The Bank on the newly-crowned champion and become the new WWE Champion himself.
Result: Incorrect.
