PPV Fusion: SummerSlam 2011

by Firefly on 15th August 2011

The 2011 WWE SummerSlam Pay-Per-View starts with the US National Anthem played on a guitar, followed by a video hyping the events leading up to the match between CM Punk and John Cena later on and fireworks to kick off the show.

The first match of the night is a six-man tag team match with The Miz, R-Truth, and Alberto Del Rio taking on Kofi Kingston, John Morrison, and Rey Mysterio. Before it takes place however, The Miz thanks the fans for the insistence that he competes at SummerSlam and the support, but before he can say that he is awesome, R-Truth makes his presence known.

Truth doesn’t understand why he wants to thank the fans, and talks about conspiracies, spiders, the letter ‘S’, and the letter ‘S’. R-Truth isn’t happy about the continuing “What?” chants from the crowd, but he is unable to say anything more as Del Rio’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring for the match.

The match sees Mysterio get the victory for his team when he hits Truth with a 619 (that The Miz manages to avoid, before being taken out by Morrison) that he follows up with a diving splash from the turnbuckle for the 3-count.

Backstage, John Laurinaitis wants CM Punk to apologise to him for what happened on Raw (click here for our Raw report), and Punk does so, though Punk obviously doesn’t mean it and finds the situation funny.

Laurinaitis leaves, but Punk turns around to find Stephanie McMahon standing there, and she wishes him luck before he expresses disbelief and suggests that she run along and talk to her husband or father.

She says that she already has talked to both, and they both wish him luck too as well as John Cena, but what would she know, she’s just Vince McMahon’s clueless daughter. CM Punk says that she said it, but he called her idiotic, and as she wishes him luck again and holds out her hand, Punk says that he would shake it, but he knows where that hand has been.

Back in the arena, after a video recapping Mark Henry’s attacks over the past few weeks and Sheamus’ decision to fight Henry and the events leading to this match, Mark Henry is pitted against Sheamus in a match which sees Henry get the victory as a result of a countout, when Sheamus is unable to re-enter the ring in time after having been slammed through the barricade by Henry.

After a performance by Cee-Lo Green, Kelly Kelly (accompanied by Eve Torres) goes against Beth Phoenix (accompanied by Natalya) in a match for the Divas Championship which sees Kelly retain the title when she counters Beth’s Glam Slam attempt into a victory roll for the 3-count.

Going backstage again, Stephanie is shown coming out of John Cena’s dressing room and walking away, while elsewhere backstage, R-Truth talks about how he should have won the match and how it was a conspiracy, to Jimmy Hart.

Hart agrees and says to him about needing to think big and suggesting that he can help him get to the top, but when Truth replies that he’s right and he himself was wrong, and that “you need to think big, not little, Jimmy” he realises what he just said, and goes into a rant about Little Jimmy before walking off in anger, yelling at Ron Artest and his daughter nearby as he does so.

Back in the arena once more, Wade Barrett takes on Daniel Bryan in a match which sees Barrett get the victory when he gives Bryan a clothesline off his position on the ropes and follows it up with The Wasteland for the 3-count.

After a video recapping the events at Money In The Bank and since then involving Randy Orton and Christian, Christian is pitted against Randy Orton in a No Holds Barred match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Before the match takes place however, Christian says that he told everyone that he had a major announcement at SummerSlam that would change everything.

He says that unlike Teddy Long or Triple H, he always keeps his promises, so asks everyone to welcome the man who will be in his corner, his best friend, the “Rated R Superstar” Edge. Edge’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring complete with his smoke and pyro.

Edge says that it was fun, but as everyone knows, he was told that he’ll never be physically cleared to compete ever again, but when he left he was actually happy, as he felt like he was a part of passing the torch to Christian, that he opened the door a crack for Christian, who then blew it wide open.

He says that he agreed that it was unfair that Long made Christian defend it a few days later, but Christian complained about it for weeks, whining and moaning, asking for rematch after rematch, and getting it and finally becoming the World Heavyweight Champion for the second time.

But Edge says that he did it by disqualification, and he admits to doing some horrible things himself, but he did it with style, he wasn’t boring, and he didn’t hide behind lawyers or suits and clipboards.

He says that somewhere along the line, Christian became a disgrace to himself, and he’s better than that and knows it. Edge says that him being his best friend will never change, but what he needs to hear as he won’t listen to it from anybody else, is that he didn’t know that his best friend would be a crying, moaning little bitch. Edge then leaves, while Christian yells for him to come back.

The match sees Orton get the victory to become the new World Heavyweight Champion after countering Christian’s crossbody attempt into an RKO for the 3-count.

After a video recapping the past week before SummerSlam, and a video recapping the events involving CM Punk and John Cena over the past month leading to this match, WWE Champion John Cena goes against WWE Champion CM Punk in a match to determine the Undisputed WWE Champion, with COO Triple H as the Special Guest Referee.

The match ends with Punk getting the victory to become the Undisputed Champion after hitting Cena with the GTS for the 3-count, however not without controversy as Cena had his foot on the rope and Triple H didn’t notice it as he made the count.

Afterwards Cena apparently tries to explain to Triple H, but it is to no avail. CM Punk celebrates in the ring, but after climbing down from the turnbuckle, he gets a clothesline from Kevin Nash who entered via the crowd, and Nash then follows it up with a jackknife powerbomb, before leaving, again through the crowd.

Alberto Del Rio takes this opportunity to cash in his Money In The Bank contract as he makes his way to the ring with a referee, and after the referee rings the bell, he hits Punk with an enzuigiri to the head for the 3-count, making him the new Undisputed WWE Champion.

While Triple H tries to figure out what just happened over the past couple of minutes, Del Rio celebrates on the stage, holding his newly-won title aloft as SummerSlam goes off the air.
