Raw Fusion: Showstopper

by Firefly on 28th June 2011

The 27th June 2011 episode of Monday Night Raw starts with WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels’ music hitting and him making his way to the ring, before talking about how he really tried to stay away but just couldn’t do it.

He asks how he could possibly leave all that, and though he gave it a try, it should be understood that after twenty years of doing something, you can’t just stop cold turkey. Michaels says that he missed the WWE Universe, and no matter what anyone says, it was each and every one of them that made him the Headliner, Showstopper, Main Event, Mr. WrestleMania, and now Mr. Hall Of Fame.

Michaels says that he doesn’t want to imply that he’s the Raw Guest Host, as he says that he’s just a dude showing up, but he says that one thing that bugs him is that every time there is one, they are out there to plug a movie or something.

He says that the last thing he is going to do is say that he has a new show on the Outdoor channel débuting the next night called “Shawn Michaels MacMillan River Adventures”, as he says that he doesn’t want to insult anyone that way, and then asks if we can see his Twitter on the titantron.

CM Punk’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring accompanied by Michael McGillicutty and David Otunga of The New Nexus, while we are told by the announcers that Mason Ryan is not present due to an injury he sustained over the weekend.

Punk says that Michaels just couldn’t stay away and that his personality is just so addictive that he couldn’t step out from under the spotlights even though he said he would leave. He asks Michaels if he is happy and the crowd if they are happy to see Michaels too, before Punk says that he’s happy because he himself is leaving on July 17th.

Shawn Michaels clarifies that it means that none of the people will have to see him again, and comments that it seems to be a win-win. Punk says that it is a win-win, but not only is Win a hotel on the Vegas strip, it is also something that Michaels didn’t leave as because he lost to The Undertaker – unlike himself who will leave as the WWE Champion.

Michaels asks CM Punk if he’s run all that by John Cena as Cena is the WWE Champion and he’s sure that he’s going to have a problem with it. Punk agrees that Cena is the champion, but he says that he is also the person that he beat two weeks ago, so he has no doubt that at the Money In The Bank Pay-Per-View in Chicago, Illinois, he will be leaving with the WWE Championship.

Punk says that one of the reasons he is leaving is because of the crowd, and he says that it is sad that they would get on their feet for the past in Shawn Michaels, instead of get on his hands and knees and beg the future to stay.

Michaels says that the reason that the reason he is cheered, is because they know that he is better than Punk, which causes a “one more match” chant to break out in the crowd. Punk says that Michaels used to be better than him when he was there, but saying that he is better than him now sounds like a challenge.

Punk says that he knows that Michaels used to be a brash and rebellious Superstar, and they are a lot alike in that respect. Michaels says that they are not alike, and though they do have some similarities, such as not smoking, drinking, or doing drugs.

Punk interrupts to add “any more” to Michaels statement, to which he accepts the dig, but Michaels says that at the end of the day, Punk’s got his style, and he has his, as he hits Otunga with Sweet Chin Music.

Punk tells Michaels that he just made the biggest mistake of his life, but Michael Cole receives an email from the Anonymous Raw General Manager which states that Punk leaving the WWE is his own decision, but as he only has three episodes of Monday Night Raw left, they are going to make them count.

He says that as he is already in the ring, he will have the first match of Raw Roulette as he passes things over to Booker T, who points out the options on the wheel before spinning it to see it land on a question mark that indicates a mystery opponent – that opponent is revealed to be Kane.

Before the match can take place, Michaels hits another Sweet Chin Music, this time on McGillicutty, and he wishes Punk luck with all of that before leaving. Kane takes on CM Punk in a match which sees Kane get the victory as a result of a count out when Punk exits the ring and leaves, deciding that it’s not worth it.

Next up, Sin Cara is pitted against Evan Bourne in what we are told is what was the actual result of the vote last week, and which Booker T and Eve reveal that the Raw Roulette stipulation is to be no count out. The match ends with Cara getting the victory when he avoids Bourne’s shooting star press and follows it up with the whirling headscissor DDT for the 3-count.

We are at the Raw Roulette wheel again with Booker T, and also Kofi Kingston who is about to spin the wheel to find out the stipulation for his match against Dolph Ziggler. Vickie interrupts and spins it instead, making him wonder if it is legal for her to do that, but he is happy with the result being “Player’s Choice” as Kingston chooses to band Vickie from ringside.

Back in the arena, Kingston goes against Dolph Ziggler in a match which sees Kingston get the victory when he counters Ziggler’s attempt to throw him out of the ring and hits Trouble In Paradise for the 3-count.

At the Raw Roulette wheel with Booker T and Maryse, Alberto Del Rio approaches and asks why he should have to be in a match with The Big Show when he already beat him at Capitol Punishment.

Maryse agrees with him, but Booker doesn’t make the matches and is about to spin the wheel for Del Rio when Del Rio asks Maryse to do so instead, so she does and then talks to Del Rio about how much they have in common until their attention is drawn to the result of the spin – Steel Cage.

Alberto Del Rio takes on The Big Show in a Steel Cage match which sees Del Rio get the victory when he escapes the cage after Mark Henry rips the door off and goes after The Big Show. Afterwards, Henry rushes Show with the cage door, causing Show to fall backwards and out of the ring, breaking down a panel of the cage as he does so.

After a video recapping the match between Kelly Kelly and Brie Bella last week which resulted in Kelly becoming the new Divas Champion, Nikki Bella (accompanied by Brie) is pitted against Kelly as the announcers inform us that Brie has a rematch with Kelly for the Divas Championship at Money In The Bank.

Going to Booker T, he spins the Raw Roulette wheel and reveals that the stipulation for the match between Nikki and Kelly will be that it is a Submission match. The match ends with Kelly getting the victory when she forces Nikki to tap out to a Boston crab that appears to be the Walls Of Jericho variation.

Afterwards, Kelly doesn’t have much time to celebrate as The Bella Twins attack her, until Eve Torres hits the ring for the save and throws them both out.

After a video package on Tough Enough winner Andy Leavine, we are at the Raw Roulette wheel with Booker T and Rey Mysterio. The result of the spin is that the upcoming match involving Mysterio, Alex Riley, The Miz, and Jack Swagger will be a tornado match.

Mysterio leaves but Booker T turns around to find Diamond Dallas Page with the “Best Of WCW Nitro” DVD, greeting each other and talking about it until they are approached by Drew McIntyre. McIntyre says that a lot of the Superstars in the back have been calling them relics and washed up, but though he isn’t saying that, he is saying that they are taking up his TV time.

As the future of the company, he recommends that they leave the building within ten minutes, or they will be leaving on stretchers. He turns only to get some Sweet Chin Music from Shawn Michaels, who then asks to have a look at the DVD, commenting that he’s never seen it as he was working that day.

Back in the arena, The Miz and Jack Swagger go against Alex Riley and Rey Mysterio in a tag team tornado match which sees Mysterio get the victory for his team when he hits Swagger with a 619 that Riley follows up with an Edgecution, and allows Mysterio to finish with the springboard splash for the 3-count.

After a video hyping Shawn Michaels’ show, we join Booker T at the Raw Roulette wheel once again, this time with R-Truth who spins it and has it land on a Tables match. Truth is happy with the result and says that John Cena is going to “get got”, and starts to mutter to himself about “Little Jimmy’s” and other things before Booker T asks him to leave as he’s beginning to scare him, but Booker has second thoughts and leaves instead.

R-Truth takes on John Cena in a Table match which sees Truth get the victory when he spears Cena through a table, thanks to the interference and distraction provided by CM Punk. Afterwards, Punk walks back up to the stage before sitting down and starting to talk.

He tells Cena to listen to him, because before he leaves with the WWE Championship in three weeks, there are a lot of things he wants to get off his chest. Punk says that he doesn’t hate Cena or even dislike him, but says he does like him, and a lot more than many of the other people in the back at that.

What Punk says he hates however, is that Cena is the best, because he’s not – he is. He says that he is the beast in the world, but there is one thing that Cena is better at than he is, which is kissing Vince McMahon’s ass.

He says that he is as good at kissing ass as Hulk Hogan was, though he’s not so sure about Dwayne (Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock) who he says always was and still is, sarcastically muttering “oops” and commenting that he’s breaking the fourth wall.

Punk says that he’s the best wrestler in the world, and that he has been ever since day one when he walked into the company, and he’s been vilified and hated since that day because Paul Heyman saw something in him that nobody else wanted to admit.

He says that he’s a Paul Heyman guy, just like Brock Lesnar was, who also split. He says that the difference between the two of them however is that he is going to split with the WWE Championship.

CM Punk says that he has grabbed so many of Vince McMahon’s imaginary brass rings that it has finally dawned on him that the are just that, completely imaginary. He says that only thing that is real is him, and the fact that day in and day out for almost six years, he has proved to everybody in the world that he is the best on the microphone, in the ring, and on commentary, and that nobody can touch him.

He says that no matter how many times he proves it, he is not on the collector cups, the cover of the programme, he is barely promoted, he doesn’t get to be in any movies or any crappy shows on the USA Network, he’s not in the poster for WrestleMania, and he’s not in the Signature at the start of the show.

Punk says that he’s not on Conan O’Brien or Jimmy Fallon and he should be, and he says that it isn’t sour grapes, but the fact that Dwayne is in the Main Event of WrestleMania next year and he’s not makes him sick.

Punk says that to get things straight, the people cheering him right now are just as big a part of him leaving as anybody else, as they are the ones who are sipping out of the collector cups, buying the programmes that his face isn’t on the cover of, and try to shove it in his face at five in the morning to get him to sign so that they can sell it on eBay as they are too lazy to get a real job.

CM Punk says that he is leaving with the WWE Championship on July 17th, and that maybe he’ll defend it in New Japan Pro Wrestling, or maybe he’ll go back to Ring Of Honor. He waves at the camera, saying hello to Colt Cabana and asking how he’s doing.

He says that the reason he is leaving is the crowd, because after he is gone, they will keep pouring money into the company. Punk says that he is just a spoke on the wheel, one that will keep turning and he understands that.

However he says that Vince McMahon is going to make money to spite himself, and that McMahon is a millionaire who should be a billionaire. Punk says that he’s not a billionaire because he surrounds himself with glad-handed, nonsensical, douche-bag yes-men like John Laurinaitis, who tell him everything that he wants to hear.

CM Punk says that he’d like to think that maybe the company will be better after Vince McMahon is dead, but it will be taken over by his idiotic daughter and dufus son-in-law and the rest of his stupid family.

He wants to tell a personal story about Vince McMahon and starts to mention the bullying campaign when his microphone cuts out. Punk ends up making gestures as he can no longer be heard, as Raw abruptly goes off the air.

WWE.com posted the following afterwards:

Raw’s abrupt conclusion Monday night was not due to technical difficulties. The decision to suddenly end the broadcast in that manner was made by WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, who gave this quote to WWE.com:

“CM Punk was suspended indefinitely for his unprofessional conduct as soon as Raw went off the air.”

With his WWE contract expiring on July 17, one can only assume that this suspension effectively terminates CM Punk’s tenure with WWE.
